Distinguishing between normal feelings of sadness and clinical depression can be challenging. While sadness is often triggered by negative life events, depression may emerge without an apparent cause. It’s crucial to understand that depression extends beyond extreme sadness. Additional symptoms may include a loss of appetite, feelings of hopelessness, decreased energy, diminished interest in hobbies, and changes in sleep patterns. Depression varies from person to person, and not everyone experiences every symptom. Importantly, feeling sad alone does not equate to experiencing depression.
