Psychotherapy is a psychological treatment. Just like any other medical check-ups, there is a course of action intended to prevent disorders or meltdowns or any other emotional well-being issue.
It sometimes becomes very difficult to accept that we have any problem related to mental health, especially when it comes to us , ‘o goodness, I cannot even handle my mind?’ We start taking it as a burden.
If you are facing potholes in life and tumbling down every now and then,
If you are struggling with accepting your contradictions,
Well, you're not alone.
Innumerable people go through challenges as to understand when is the right time to start therapy? “Why at all do we need therapy?”
“I don’t need therapy, I don’t have a psychological problem!”
“Therapy is just talk. Why should I pay for that?
“How can an stranger help with my relationship problems?”
And many more such doubts cloud our mind.
There is no such right time to start therapy. Anytime you can do that. Especially if you are feeling overwhelmed, if you are in a crisis, or not… If you are stressed, or not… If you are hating yourself or loving yourself too much… If you are unsure about how you want to see yourself.
Therapy is not just treatment for psychological problems and mental illness. Therapy is a wonderful tool for growth, enrichment, and self-awareness!
Developing sense of self- compassion and acceptance can be challenging for many people
A skilled psychotherapist, who has the expertise to help clients to achieve self-acceptance as part of a larger change process can help you to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
“Mental disorders affect one in four people”, says the World Health Organization.
It is when we come across such high statistics that we show concern about our own mental health. Sadly, it takes millions of people to get affected by mental illness for us to take care of our own mental health. Whereas, in any circumstance, mental health should be our priority!

But unfortunately, in the jungle of competition, from finding an Uber-cab to getting promotion, we compete all day, every day! In such a competitive world, what we lack is kindness and compassion.
During our low times, we expect someone to resonate with us and be compassionate and kind to us. Sadly, we are not always surrounded by such people. So it is necessary to be mentally healthy in order to have a positive outlook towards everything even during negative times.
As Lord Buddha once said, “All that we are, is the result of what we have thought.”
So, Finally, are we really ready for some change? Since Psychotherapy requires a flexible mindset, and a willingness to change, it’s better to allow little consideration in mind to explore and understand one self.
Change is uncomfortable. Change is inevitable. However, change is needed to heal, to get better.
But we have innate tendencies to go back to familiar patterns even if they are unhealthy. This leads to the vicious cycle of effort – discomfort – retreat to old patterns – guilt – repeated effort, creating lot of guilt and discomfort. So, if you want results you have to bear the discomfort long enough to see actual change. But the good news is that you won’t have to do it alone. Your therapist will be there to guide you, motivate you, and see you through. However, you will have to hold on and be consistent with the process. The responsibility of change is on you though, not on your therapist entirely, but this willingness to change is what will make you a good fit for therapy because people who are truly ready for change recognise that there are no shortcuts and definitely find it meaningful.
